Love the story telling Love #the illustrations Love the generational companionship I highly recommendDISCLOSURE I received a complimentary copy to #illustrations Love the generational companionship I highly recommendDISCLOSURE I received a complimentary copy to a review Opinions are mine alone and are freely given Most people have routines and their lives begin to take on the feeling of sameness That s OK but sometimes people need to look at their lives through new eyes That s the premise of this book but as one of my oung readers pointed out it s also about friends It begins when Mr Posey wakes up one morning and decides his dull boring life needs a new pair of glasses And so he invites his oung friend and neighbor Andy along on a trip to the Cheer Up Thrift Shop to see if they can find a pair of glasses through which Mr Posey can get a different perspective of his world After rejecting pair after pair Mr Posey puts his old glasses on just as Andy asks him if he could buy him a wheel But when Mr Posey can t see what Andy has his friend tells him to clean his glasses and voila clean glasses are just the thing needed to make Mr Posey s life less dull and boring They buy the wheel instead of glasses and have lots of fun with it on their way home I liked this story on so many levels First there s the intergenerational aspect and the way Andy and elderly Mr Posey get along so well Then there s the fact that Mr Posey is white and Andy appears to be African American and it s just a fact of who they are And third I liked the idea that we all have the power within ourselves to look at life differently The digitally created power within ourselves to look at life differently The digitally created are fun and very expressive especially when the two friends are trying on glasses Summary Mr Posey needed some new glasses and needed them uickly Everything looked like the same old same old He ventured into the thrift store of his oung neighbor and sought after a new pair They tried on a couple of pairs but every time they tried these used glasses on they were taken into a whole new perspective They searched and searched and finally Mr Posey gave up but noticed that his glasses were really dirty After giving them a uick shine he saw everything from a new perspectiveResponse I LOVED this book It has so many different elements that can be applicable to many children For example they had characters of different ages races and experiences Often times children s books don t talk about thrift stores but here this is where the whole story took place It had imagination amazing use of colors and well developed characters 1010 would recommend for a classroomClassroom idea I think there are many ways ou could use this in the classroom You could do a lesson about seeing things from a different perspective relationships with people of different ages as well as trying out new things that might be scary This book also has an immense amount of visuals that can be great topics of conversation For example how the colors changed whenever he puts on the glasses or even the thrift store itself. Shaped pair makes everything pink And as soon as Mr Posey puts on the cat eye framed glasses fierce dogs start chasing him No thank ou But when Andy makes a simple observation Mr Posey's view opens to a whole new world and finally everything is brighter different and excitin. As soon as he tries them he s underwater surrounded by fish and a giant tentacle that s trying to grab him Each subseuent pair comes with another view of something disturbing or that makes Mr Posey feel ueasy One pair with green lenses shaped like cat s eyes lands him in a pack ferocious dogs intent upon grabbing him and doing who knows what When he reaches the end of his patience Mr Posey put his old glasses on and that s when Andy realizes what the problem has been all along They re dirty No sooner does he clean them than Mr Posey s world is back to bright and cheery This is a simple story but a fun one and The Three Billy Goats Gruff Grades 2 5 youngsters will delight in all the funny things that happen each time a new pair of glasses are tried Ted Kooser former Poet Laureate offers us a reminder of looking at the world through different glasses as the story begins with Mr Posey down in the dumps one morning He looks out the window at hisoung neighbor Andy lively and full of Random treasure from library display I m always looking for stories about intergenerational friendships and this delivers perfectly It also has the older character wearing glasses which I do and feeling the world gone blah which I do Of course the cure for Mr Posey s existential crisis isn t just the removal of grime but the whole adventure but any reader #can benefit from the extended metaphor that supports the story I personally would have bought the first two #benefit from the extended metaphor that supports the story I personally would have bought the first two of glasses tooBonus in that it has characters that just happen to be diverse Kooser is a poet His sensibilities shine through Highly recommended to all ages With a strong theme of learning to see things in a new way Mr Posey s New Glasses tells the story of an elderly gentleman who sets out to get a new set of glasses when he can t tolerate his old ones any longer He takes along his The Gingerbread Man Grades 2 5 young friend Andy to he This children s book takes looking through rose colored lenses to a whole new levelAs I read through this delightful story I was entranced with the flow and beauty of the story telling Surely this was on a different plane than the usual children s book Not overly complicated and not dumbed down Simply beautifully told with a flow and cadence that captured the heart of this senior citizenI think that this sweet story will engender generational respect and especially endear older folks in their loneliness and limitations to the hearts of impressionableoung childrenSo Mr Posey decides his glasses are limiting his ability to see beyond the sameness of everything he faces day in and day out Will a new pair of glasses create a break with the sameness of a humdrum life No But the author breaks out a variety of glasses that open up new vistas Bright shinny different scary differences And Mr Posey s little friend Andy sees the new worlds through the new and different glasses alsoBut the end of the sameness of the humdrum life isn t changed by these glasses No there is a different solutionLove this book. Up Thrift Shop with his energetic oung neighbor Andy will help But when the duo try on the glasses in the shop's barrel they're in for a big surprise One pair with stars for frames shows only constellations in a night sky Round frames reveal a world all aswirl while a heart. I love this story What is the right thing for ou What do The Ugly Duckling Grades 2 5 you want to see inour world Mr Posey is bored because everything around him seems dull with the exception of his oung friend Andy Mr Posey decides he needs new glasses so with the help of Andy they venture off to the Cheer Up Thrift Shop All #THE DIFFERENT GLASSES THAT MR POSEY TRIES ON GIVES #different glasses that Mr Posey tries on gives a different and strange view of the world and he becomes disappointed It isn t until Andy makes an observation that Mr Posey s outlook changes Mr Posey s New Glasses by Ted Kooser and illustrated by Daniel Duncan What a hip grandpa type Mr Posey is I loved immediately the intergenerational friendship between Mr Posey and Andy It immediately blankets the story with a sense of compassion and brotherly love that is only reiteration through the fun the two have on their outing which seems to be a common thing for them to do It is funny to think Mr Posey could get a new pair of glasses at a thrift store as it is obvious that he needs a prescription to see but that is the fun With each newold pair of glasses Mr Posey tries on we are invited into a world created by his vivid imagination and is blurred vision of the night sky undersea life and even what is like for a cat to be pursued by a pack of wild dogs The accompanying illustrations by Daniel Duncan are so whimsical and beautifully detailed from the overflowing trash can in the bathroom Mr Posey s fancy black and white shoes a lazy bee floating by a sunflower and the perfect overall effect of the musty thrift store that Mr Posey and Andy go to The book is told completely through the illustrations and ou can spend hours catching every detailTo find out that all Mr Posey needed to do was clean his own old dirty glasses is a hoot With his newly cleaned specs Mr Posey is able to enjoy his surroundings bringing a sense of mindfulness to his life Old becomes newThis is a wonderful picture book with just enough text and new words to excite the Peter Pan Grades 2 5 young reader as well as the perfect book for read aloud I highly recommend this sweet story of friendship with an eually gratifying tale of caring for the environment such as buying used things and using a clothesline for drying The story and illustrations are winnersThankou to Candlewick Press for sending me this book All opinions expressed are my own Poor Mr Posey His world and his life seem to be getting gloomier every day When his oung neighbor Andy suggests a trip to the Cheer Up Thrift Shop he agrees reluctantly because he doesn t have a better idea Off go Mr Posey Andy and Andy s dog Parker When they arrive at the shop where Mr

buys all his same old socks and shoes Andy takes him to a barrel filled with used glasses The first pair are blue star shaped with imitation diamonds on the temple pieces No sooner does he put them on than the ceiling turns into a star filled night sky Too dark thinks Mr Posey so he tries a brown tortoise shell pair but. In a charming tale of an elderly man and his obliging oung friend former poet laureate Ted Kooser and newcomer Daniel Duncan invite us to look at the world with fresh eyesMr Posey is feeling gloomy Everything seems dull Maybe he needs new glasses Perhaps a trip to the Cheer.
